The Hardest Virtue

Patience is a virtue. Ever heard that? I have. And I hate it. Mostly because I struggle with it. I was praying about patience in my life this morning and started thinking about this simple statement. Patience is a virtue. We all know what patience is. It is the capacity, habit, or act of.....

KDB

Wow...its been a long few days. Road a buncha buncha miles. I am currently in Mineral Wells about 65 miles outside of Dallas TX. Yesterday it was a great ride. Did 120+ miles in the raging sun. Sweaty and hot. Loved it. Today....I had to chip the ice away from my water bottle (no joke). It was freezing. Crazy West Texas weather. Anyways, yesterday I pulled up to Blaise and Gerty in a small town called Roby. There were three students hanging out. Turns out they have a Christian punk band called KDB.....it stands for Kick Devil Butt. So cool. They gave us a CD. It is really good. We listened to it last night. I am gonna use a song in one of our videos coming up. They also signed Gerty. Pretty cool being able to talk to people on the street and get them into it too. Anyways, tonight we stayed at Blaise’s Aunt and Uncles house. Great tacos. Thanks Heidi and Allen. Oh, and I added a paypal button to the donate section, so if you would like to help us out....we would really appreciate it. Anything would help. Love you guys and thanks for the prayers.

Endorsements

Jeff Frost
Youth Pastor at Rockford First Assembly
Rockford Illinois

"Having Johnny connect with both our middle and high school ministries was a great decision and a great experience.  Not only were the services powerful and fun but he genuinely engaged with our students before and after service.  Everyone walked away feeling encouraged and inspired to make a difference in their world.  There's no doubt that he'll have the same impact on your students or organization."

Doug Witherup
District Youth Director (DYD)
North Carolina

“Johnny Kelly was a great asset to our camps, bringing energy, passion, and connection with students.  His life and message are that of daring to do something great for the Kingdom of God.”

Carlo Serrano
Lead Pastor at Xtreme Church
Clarksville, TN
“Johnny is one of the most versatile communicators I've ever heard. He has this uncanny ability to break down walls and grab the attention of an audience regardless of if they number in the thousands or dozens. His passion for the cause of Christ, personality, and talents in communication make him a highly demanded speaker at churches, schools, conventions, and camps. More than all, Johnny is my friend. I've known him for 13 years and have seen him live out the faith that he proclaims. You will not regret booking Johnny to speak at your event.”

Darren Nibbelink
Director of Church Relations
The Oaks School of Leadership

“I loved having Johnny Kelly speak to my students. He used his humor, passion, and wisdom to speak about the importance of missions. He has a unique ability to connect with, and challenge my students and leaders to live a missional life. Once you have Johnny speak to your group or church you will invite him back year after year.”

Mission

Thanks so much for taking a second to hear from my heart. I really appreciate you considering bringing me in to speak to your group. My whole heart is to show people that they can change the world. I firmly believe that God calls us all to make a difference anywhere and everywhere we can. I know that where we talk to people is not as important as who we talk to, and I am here to try and help you reach out to your community in whatever way you would like me to.

I started by speaking to teens, but over the years have grown to speak to all ages. Todays culture is full of people that have questions, hurts, pressures, choices, and fears. My hope is to come along side you and your ministry or organization and help bring some answers and guidance. My goal isn't to make people believe what I believe, but to finally truly believe what they have said they believe. "If you haven't found something worth dying for, you aren't fit to live." - Martin Luther King Jr.

On this site, you can find some of my thoughts, endorsements from other places I have spoken, and other general information about myself. So if you think I could be a good fit for you and your organization I am looking forward to hearing from you.

About Johnny

Hello there, my name is Johnny Kelley. I am first and foremost a Christian. I love Jesus with all my heart. I am married to a beautiful woman named Sarah and have the best baby boy ever, Arlis. We live in Lakeland Florida. She is a Disney nerd, and makes me smile more than anything else. I have pastored, and worked in full time ministry for the better part of ten years. Now I travel and speak anywhere and everywhere I can. I am a voice for missions and love to show people what that means to us. I started a ministry called Bike For The Light a few years ago. That ministry has led to the ministry I have now as a speaker, evangelist, writer, and anything else that God leads me to do. Thanks so much for taking the time to check out my site, and if you would like to Book Johnny to speak at your church, school, or organization just let me know. Remember, you can change the world.

Bike For The Light

I ride bicycles across the country to reach out to students. To help them realize they can change the world. In 2009 I rode from San Francisco California to Orlando Florida. That is more than 10,000 miles of long, hot, sweaty road. In 2010 I road a giant snake route across the entire eastern half of the U.S. Now why, you may ask, would a guy decide to leave his job and take on a task so incredibly hard? Well I will tell you.

It’s because I think that there is a great need for people to think beyond themselves. The world is hurting and needs help. From digging wells in Uganda, to buying a people mover for a missionary in the Dominican Republic, to helping a teenage girl in Chicago learn how to deal with depression, there are needs everywhere you look. I ride so that missionaries and humanitarian projects all over the world are able to keep doing the good work they have been called to do. So how does me riding a bicycle an obscene distance help? Glad you asked.....that is where you come in. We need people to pledge money to missions organizations. To take time out of your day and reach out in your city, to your friends. To help anywhere and everywhere you can. Whatever you can do will be appreciated. Please don’t make me ride all that way for nothing *puppy dog eyes*.

This ministry was started out of my youth group when I was youth pastoring in Miami, and now it is something that I do whenever needed or called upon. I am not on the road full time with the bike now, but am still doing rides and raising awareness anywhere someone needs me to. So if you would like to have me come sometime, just go to our Book Johnny page and let us know.

Deep in the heart

So I am in Texas now. Midland TX to be exact. Friday night lights and all. It has been a good few days. I have had to ride a whole lot. Sunday I rode over 120 miles. Today was 80. Its been hard, but fun. I crossed the border from New Mexico this afternoon. I grew up in Texas and have tons of family and friends across the state, so I am looking forward to it. Last night I was fun. We were just gonna park at a church in Eunice NM. But we got to do what has sort of become normal for this tour so far, speak. I showed up around 6, went to dinner with Pastor Kenny, and at 7 got to speak to the students at Eunice A/G. I had a good time hanging out with them. Tonight I was at First A/G in Midland. Such a good time. Ate a ton of food at a couple different restaurants. Tonight I hung out at a Mexican place with a bunch of students from Revolution. It was fun. Sorry for picking on you Tiffany. Haha. I am excited about the next couple days. I am leaving here in the morning for Dallas. That is 350+ miles in 3 days. Fun stuff. But when I get there I have tons of friends to see, and my girlfriend Sarah is coming out to visit me for a couple days too. Should be a blast. Just posted a new video with an homage to Star Trek. Hope you enjoy it. Love you guys and all the prayers, emails, and messages. Keep em coming. Gnite.

It has been a blast hanging out with all the students. I am so stinking tired tho. I will post more tomorrow. Go check out my new video, and the story about me in the “Roswell Record”. It is a newspaper. I was on the cover. Pretty cool. Lates.

So me and Blaise went to the UFO museum. Fun. I have clips that will be in a video soon. Also, pastor Grant here hooked us up. We went and got massages yesterday. So great. Oh, and Baracus got a bath too. Just a busy couple days. Well, I am posting a new video as we speak that has me rappelling. Go check it out. Im hitting the road. Next stop Albuquerque.

My old stomping grounds

I am in Carlsbad, NM. It is a great time. I used to live here a few years ago. I was the youth pastor at First AG in Carlsbad for a while a few years ago. I got to speak at both the adult and youth services last night. Got to hang out with all my old students. Such a great time. It was so so so nice to be able to see what God has done in these guys over the last couple years. Went to Dennys for dinner and saw some of them again. This morning I went to breakfast with a couple, and then I went out rappelling with them and the new youth pastor. It was awesome. I went Australian style. That is rappelling face forward. It was a 130 foot cliff. So awesome. Had a blast. Next stop...Roswell....ALIENS!!!!

On the border

Hey there everyone. I am currently north of El Paso heading towards Carlsbad, NM. I am speaking there on Sunday. We are not gonna have good cell service for the next couple of days, so I will post when I can. Just posted a new video with me eating. Fun stuff. Today I rode for a long time along the Rio Grande River. Right along the edge of Mexico. They have this giant fence up now to keep us separate. It is crazy to think about how just a few miles from where I spoke last night there are people in poverty, drug cartels, and people that have no hope for the future. That is except when our missionaries can show them real hope. The grace of God. As I biked today I realized how much we have to help. The border here is so dangerous now. When we were in San Diego, we heard about a woman from a local church. Her husband went into Mexico 8 months ago for an afternoon, and never came home. She doesn’t know what happened and probably never will. That was just 20 minutes from where we were at the time. Crazy. We live our lives, and such a short ways away, people are in need. And most of us are too scared to go help. So why don’t we try our best to help those that aren’t scared. Pray for our missionaries in Mexico. And help fund them as much as you can. They are in a dangerous place, and reaching a group of people that really need it. Talk to you when I can.

Air Horn

I am having a good time. Today in Silver City was cold and rainy. I wanted to go tool around on the bike for a bit, but just couldn’t get past the weather. I did get something accomplished though. Pastor Fred and me put in an air horn system in Gerty. It sounds so cool. Now Gerty sounds as big as she really is. Also got the laundry done. Actually Judy did. Its like being at my moms house. We are getting fed great, clean clothes, and lots of relaxing. The Connells also have the biggest tub ever. Today I took an awesome bath. Soaked my knee. Its been giving me problems, so hopefully it is going to feel better now. Tomorrow we are heading to Deming NM. Should be fun. Anyways. It has really been nice to relax and do a lot of nothing for a couple days. I actually watched the last Pirates of the Caribbean movie last night. Just a good time. Thank you Connells for the relaxing time. New video tomorrow I think. Gnite.

Ready, Aim, Fire

So I am doing great. Its been a fun time so far on the tour. I am in New Mexico at the moment. Spoke at two different churches today in Silver City. Harvest, and Glad Tidings. Both services went so awesome. Blaise and I are staying at my old senior pastors house, Fred and Judy Connell. Yesterday I went shooting clay pigeons with Fred and some of the guys from his church. I did pretty well. Haven’t shot since moving away from NM over 3 years ago. But still was keeping up with the guys. Have a wicked bruise on my shoulder though. That is what happens when you shoot a gun too much. Haha. Tomorrow is going to be a busy day. We are putting an air horn in Gerty, putting new brakes on one of my bikes, washing our clothes, cleaning all my bikes drivetrains, washing Baracus, and calling a bunch of churches for the tour. Fun stuff. Well I am off to bed now. Its been a long day today. Write me sometimes....I love talking to you guys.

Goodbye Arizona, Hello New Mexico

So yesterday I rode to a place called Safford Arizona. A small town about a hundred + miles east of Phoenix. We stayed at First Assembly there. Thanks for the hospitality to the pastor and his family. Crazy story. I am walking Baracus last night before going to bed, and we are behind the church along a fence. When all of a sudden a bull runs toward the fence. It was dark outside and the bull was black. Scared me to death. Anyways, got up and started riding this morning. Today was a brutal ride. Hardest so far on the tour. Im talking almost 60 miles of uphill. Not baby hills, but steep grades up mountains. So tired. One cool thing happened though. I went down a mountain pass and went my fastest ever. 59.4 mph. I was faster than cars. I scared the construction guy holding the SLOW sign too. Haha. So scary and fun. Anyways, made it to New Mexico and am in Silver City, staying at pastor Fred and Judy Connells. They are some of my favorite people in the world. They were my senior pastors when I youth pastored in Carlsbad a few years ago. So, anyways. I want to say goodbye Arizona. You were incredible. So beautiful. If you haven’t watched the video named “Beautiful World” you should. It is dedicated to Arizona. You are now officially one of my favoritist places to ride. But now onto state 3 of the tour. Fun Stuff.

PS. Today I passed 1500 miles. 1507 miles for the tour so far. Crazy huh.

Bad Boys

Got into Phoenix last night. Actually, Chandler. Stayed with an old friend from Lakeland named Jay. Really great guy that is just trying to be a good single father. From what I can tell, he is succeeding. Realized I needed some new brakes on the Jamis, so found an incredible deal on a set of Dura-Ace brakes at the second shop I went to. I think that by the time I am done with this bike, it will be all top of the line. Anyways, got to speak at my old youth pastor, Mark Rempel’s, youth group tonight for a bit. Blaise and I went to In-N-Out with them after the service. Got to share for a long time with Mark. I felt like an jr higher seeking the approval of his pastor again. Maybe it is more like a man seeking the approval of a mentor. Either way, I love that guy. I know I gave him a hard time when I was a kid, but he really was one of the most important people in my life so far. Got to spend a little more time with Jay tonight too. It has just been so great being able to see and hang out with old friends, and making new ones on this trip. His dog just died, so he loved having Baracus out here for a couple days. Gave him bones and treats the whole time. Baracus really is getting spoiled on this trip. Tomorrow we head towards the Connells in Silver City. They are my old Senior Pastors from New Mexico. I youth pastored there a few years ago. In fact, that is where I met Blaise. He was on of my students there. Cant wait to see them, and I know that they will spoil Baracus even more. Better get to bed. I have two days to make 270 miles.

PS. Sarah is doing a lot better. She is just restless. You would be too if you had to stay in bed for 3 months. I really hope she gets back to normal soon. Miss you baby.

The Core

So I have had a blast in Prescott. Spoke at The CORE youth group on Sunday night. Awesome students. They had fun too I think. Actually had a couple of them eat dog food to get a free shirt....haha (I will be posting a new video with clips of that soon). Had a great service on Sunday morning here as well. Had a blast spending time with Pastor Steve, and Pastor Adam and his wife Natasha. I ate a ton of meat while I was here. All in all, just a really good couple of days. Now I have to ride 139.4 miles to Chandler Arizona today. Awesome.

PS. Thank you so much for your prayers for Sarah. She is starting to feel better, but really just needs to be healed and not sick anymore. Keep praying.

Fun in Arizona

Had a fun day today. I went mountain biking with Pastor Steve Lummer from Prescott. I am a roadie (road bike rider), but used to mountain bike some. its been a long long time though. So today was awesome. Because I went mountain biking in Sedona Arizona. Like a mecca for mountain biking. Crazy hard, and a good time. Thanks Pastor Steve for taking me. I think I may go out again with him before I leave next week. Then after leaving mountain biking we went to In-N-Out Burger for dinner. As we pulled up, I saw someone I recognized. It was Mark Rempel. My old youth pastor from like 17 years ago. Crazy. This guy had such a huge impact on my life. We talked for a bit about old times. I remember going on my first retreat with him and being in his small group. I felt so privileged to be picked for his personal group. It was an honor. At the time I was just some chubby spaz kid that didn’t have any real friends to speak of at the time, and generally felt left out. But someone that I looked up to picked me. ME. That was such an awesome time. Through the years with him I was a part of many retreats, and was in dramas at some of them (go Ironwolves!). I look back now and realize how that time in my life helped mold the man I am today. He was one of the people that showed me grace in a real way, and I now try to show that same grace to others. The grace God showed me. Basically what I am saying is that no matter how out of place and useless I felt, he thought I was worth something....and showed me that God did too. Guys, if you feel useless....know that you are worth so much more than you could ever know. I see it. And so does God. Your “uselessness” is exactly what God wants to “use” to change the world. I love you Mark.....and I love all of you too. Great day.

PS. Sarah, my gf, is feeling bad today. She is still trying to kick her sickness. If you get a chance, please pray for her. She has been terribly sick for 3 months, and I hate her feeling this way. Miss you baby.
